Audrey Kusiak, PhD

Dr. Kusiak is a Scientific Portfolio Manager at the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, Office of Research and Development, Rehabilitation Research and Development Service.  Dr. Kusiak’s scientific portfolio consists of applied/translational and clinical research on spinal cord injury, neural and musculoskeletal regenerative medicine. 

Dr. Kusiak received her Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the University of Florida.  She spent the next three years in Martinsried, Germany at the Max Planck Institute for Psychiatry.  Dr. Kusiak returned to Baltimore, MD where she was a Research Scientist at the National Institute on Aging.  Prior to her joining the Dept. of Veterans Affairs, Dr. Kusiak was a Program Analyst in the Repair and Plasticity Cluster at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. 

Dr. Kusiak’s research interests include the development and translation of small molecules, biologics and devices for neural repair, focusing on CNS and PNS injury, neurological diseases and consequences resulting from injury or disease.  She served on the CDMRP SCIRP panel and the Chronic Effects of Neurotrauma Consortium, and is a member of the NASEM Regenerative Medicine Forum and the Open Data Commons – Spinal Cord Injury Community Board.
